In a few weeks, most Americans will lose an hour of sleep as clocks will shift ahead by one hour.

Daylight saving time begins Sunday, March 9, at 2 a.m. local time in the U.S.

So, on March 8 before bedtime, most people will “spring ahead” -- setting clocks forward one hour. It also means that March 9 will only be 23 hours long. One hour of sleep will be lost as this shift moves one hour of daylight from the morning to the evening.

Daylight Saving time changes what “time” the sun rises and sets, affecting daily light exposure.

Frederick County Volunteer Fire and Rescue service uses this as an opportunity to remind residents it is also a good time to check smoke alarms, and carbon monoxide alarms to see if they need new batteries.

It's also a good time to volunteer with Frederick County Volunteer Fire and Rescue!
