October is Fire Prevention Month! Fire Prevention month is observed each year to commemorate the devastating damage caused by the Great Chicago Fire, which began on October 8, 1871. 1925 President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed Fire Prevention Week a national observance, making it our country’s longest-running public health observance!

This year, the Fire Prevention campaign is “Smoke Alarms: Make Them Work for You!” Deputy Chief Shane Darwick of Frederick County Volunteer Fire and Rescue presented FCVFRA Fire Prevention and Life Safety Chairperson , Kimberly Shelton, with a signed Fire Prevention Proclamation reinforcing our commitment to overall safety and fire prevention education.
