People volunteer because they care about their community and want to give back.
Volunteers are able to see the difference they make in other people's lives whether that be helping them in life threatening situations or just educating them on how to better take care of themselves or others they are helping. One of the most critical responsibilities is assessing the medical needs of the sick or injured. This must be done quickly and efficiently, especially in serious life or death situations when a minute lost can mean the difference between saving someone or not. There are few jobs more rewarding than being a firefighter. Every day, firefighters have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. They may be called upon to rescue someone from a burning building, face unique search and rescue challenges, water rescues, provide public education, take pride in their work and filling gaps in essential public services.
Volunteers provide support and service to our nonprofit organizations by offering their time, skills and expertise. This is essential for organizations to fulfill their purpose in keeping communities safe, building communities and contributing to society. Twenty-four different volunteer corporations within Frederick County are volunteer owned. Most of those corporations own all of the emergency apparatus within their stations saving county taxpayers millions of dollars each year. This job isn't about the money but the selflessness in helping others who need it.
“Volunteers don’t get paid, not because they’re worthless, but because they’re priceless.” - By Sherry Anderson |
