| Long before the founding of our nation, steadfast citizens stood watch over their communities, prepared to protect those around them. Today, that same enduring spirit continues to thrive in Frederick County.
Our volunteer firefighters and EMTs are the very fabric of this community—your neighbors, your colleagues, your family and your friends. In moments of uncertainty and crisis, they respond with unwavering dedication, united by a profound commitment to safeguard the place we all call home.
As America commemorates its 250th anniversary, we invite you to honor this historic milestone by becoming part of our community’s living legacy. Your service today will help shape the generations of tomorrow.
NOTE: Benjamin Franklin founded America's first volunteer fire department, the Union Fire Company, in Philadelphia on December 7, 1736. Often called the "Father of the Fire Service," he created a system where volunteers protected the whole community, carrying their own leather buckets and linen bags to save property.
